SMplayer
I never bothered to install it, thinking that Mplayer’s command line options gave me everything I needed .. but finally gave SMplayer a try and I am enjoying it a lot.
“One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave… don’t worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume…”
SMplayer provides me with lots of options that make the command line MPlayer so versatile. The good thing is that it also leaves space to pass extra options. Just go to options>preferences>advanced>
The preferences are good fun, you can adjust your keyboard shortcuts, subtitle fonts etc. Before enjoying SMplayer this is also the place where you have to configure your cd / dvd drive:
Of course i tried by filling in the following:
Uuh, … half victory: My drm’d copy of Kill Bill does not even crash the player straight away. So that is already a great success! But instead of Uma Thurin in yellow battle outfit, it gives groovy pixellated abstract art. Not sure if that is an improvement …
Anyway, check it out if you love mplayer, and get a bit frustrated by its limited gui. I found out about SMplayer through the excellent weblog of profoX who, amongst other very interesting things such as development work for the DJ software Mixxx also worked on the translation to dutch of SMplayer. Thanks and keep up the good work! (By the way, Wesley, after selecting Dutch as interface language, why is the tab ‘uitgebreid>MPlayer language’ in English?)
