TheoraCookbook
FLOSS Manuals is a collection of manuals that explain how to install and use a range of free and open source software. The manuals are friendly and simple, and they are intended to encourage people to explore the wide range of free, open source alternatives to expensive and restrictively licensed software.
FlossManuals.net now hosts great information on how to use Theora video. In true cookbook style, the TheoraCookbook several aspects of working with Theora are explained. With the recent Book Sprint that was held in Berlin, and the help of many loosely connected contributors, the Theora Coockbook has (well .. in my humble opinion that is) become an indispensible document for anybody working with open source video.
TheoraCookbook includes articles on basic concepts (such as: what are codecs, containers, how to playback Theora), as well as more in depth writing (how to encode, work with subtitles, edit on the command line)
There are segments that could be worked out mor in detail. For the moment the chapter only contains lilmited info on one time line editor, allthough of course there are many others around. Information about that is already available on other sites (for example in the section on open source video tools in the Digital Artists Handbook), and I am sure it will only be a matter of time before the TheoraCookbook will be updated benifiting from that preparatory work.
If you feel like jumping in to bring the project further, you are invited to register and help edit and / or discuss using the IRC (irc.freenode.net #flossmanuals) and mailinglists
